Pete Oyler is co-founder, co-editor, and creative director of Outpost Journal, an annual non-profit print publication that explores art, design, and community activism in cities that have been traditionally underexposed beyond their local context. Each issue of Outpost focuses on illuminating a hyper-local arts ecology via photography, design and creative additions that vary by issue, as well as a guide to where to find the best art in town and where to eat and drink while you’re at it. In each issue, Outpost exposes the various ways in which unique local communities arise through creative collaboration and production. Our first issue, featured Pittsburgh, PA and our second issue focused on Baltimore, MD. Our forthcoming issue will feature Kansas City, MO.

Outpost Journal was recently hailed by the British Journal of Photography as one of the four “Best New Magazines” of the year for its explorations of edgy art and arts-based activism in underexposed locations and is distributed in various locations internationally including Printed Matter, Opening Ceremony, and MoMA PS1.
